Kann' and the Caribbean footprint

1991 / Retour aux sources
After his experience with « Ultramarine », « Retour aux Sources » is Mario Canonge's first album as a leader. A stunning success for this album which playlist became without a doubt a collection of remarkable standards ('Lésé palé', 'Pei mwen jodi', 'West Indies Rhapsody'…). And now « Retour aux sources » can be downloaded.

1993 / Trait d'union
It's Jocelyne Béroard who opens « Trait d'Union » with the famous « Non Musieu ». Around his group Kann'– with Thierry and Jean-Philippe Fanfant and Bago – Mario invites the greatest Caribbean musicians for this festive « trait d'union » : Ralph Thamar, Jean-Paul Pognon, Miguel Gomez, Jean-Philippe Marthély, Tony Chasseur…

1995 / Arôme Caraïbes
In the tradition of « Retour aux sources », « Arôme Caraïbes » presents a few standards wonderfully interpreted during his concerts. From Jazz to Zouk ('Bam ti bonjou') to Beguine or Latin Jazz, « Arôme Caraïbes » definitely deserves its name while creating a friendly atmosphere. The perfect opportunity to enjoy the talent of Ralph Thamar and Tatiana Miath, among others.

1997 / Chawa
Here comes Jazz! With « Chawa », Mario Canonge's Caribbean Jazz subtly announces his future albums like « Rhizome » and « mitan ». 'Kon Djab Djigidji' will even become one of the successes of « Sakésho », the well- known quartet he founded with Andy Narell, Michel Alibo and Jean-Philippe Fanfant.

2001 / Carte blanche
« Carte Blanche » is an invitation. To musicians, his friends and partners, with whom he loves creating and sharing. The voices of Jocelyne Béroard, Ralph Thamar or Tony Chasseur, the violins of the Orquestra Aragon (Cuba), Andy Narell's Steel Drums, Orlando Poleo percussions, the rhythm section of the Fanfant Brothers…But it is also and above all an invitation to the public. An invitation to a journey in the F.W.I, at the heart of Martinique, discovering its history, culture and music.

West Indies classics

1999 / Punch en musique
With « Punch en musique » Mario Canonge performs the most beautiful pages of Caribbean tradition. The perfect opportunity to reappropriate the standard pieces of mazurka and beguine while adding a personal touch to create a collection, festive and nostalgic, of a certain way of life.

2003 / Les plus belles chansons de Noël
Along with Alex Bernard (bass) and Jean-Philippe Fanfant (dms), Mario Canonge interprets the most beautiful Caribbean Christmas carols somewhere in between Jazz and the traditional Chanté Nwel. Whether intimist, joyful or reverential, this trio is always sincere and offers some of the best interpretations of those famous carols. Could this possibly be one of these Christmas Miracles?

2009 / Punch en musique 2
Just like for the first volume of « Punch en musique », this second opus presents Caribbean standards, mainly from Malavoi's repertoire, as well as some of Mario's own hits ('Non Musieu', 'Pei mwen jodi'). With Gregory Louis on the drums!

2004 / Rhizome
Mario Canonge took a long time to get ready for this album which stands out with the previous ones while remaining deeply Caribbean. Recorded in New York for the most part, « Rhizome » subtly shifts toward Jazz and welcomes several prestigious artists: Roy Hargrove, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Richard Bona, Antonio Sanchez…

2009 / Rhizome Tour
After the success of « Rhizome », Mario Canonge takes Linley Marthe (b) and Chander Sardjoe (dms) on the road for a series of concerts around the world. Several of those performances were recorded, giving life to an outstanding album where the « three partners in crime » freely evolve. A real moment of joy!

2011 / Mitan
For Mario, « mitan » is a turning point! And for this new adventure he chose a Caribbean team, with Felipe Cabrera from Cuba, on double bass and Obed Calvaire from Haiti, on drums. Ever since « Rhizome » Mario has been searching the perfect alchemy between Jazz and Caribbean music, more traditional and often lighter. And the result of his quest is a success! « mitan » is without a doubt a real Jazz and Caribbean CD. Both styles beautifully evolving side by side.
