In 2004, with Rhizome, Mario took his jazz turn, without abandoning the West Indies, by any means. He is now successfully exploring this path, often with his accomplice Michel Zenino, but also with French Caribbean jazz musicians who are now widely recognised, such as Arnaud Dolmen and Michel Alibo.

Kann’ and the Caribbean footprint

With the Fanfant brothers and percussionist Bago, Mario has set up Kann’, a vibrant heart that welcomes a host of guests to celebrate zouk, Caribbean tradition and Creole jazz.

The recent Kapital duo with Erik Pédurand, the Afro-Caribbean & Brazil trio CAB with Blick Bassy and Adriano Tenorio, the Sakésho quartet with Andy Narell, the Chic Hot quartet with Hervé Gourdikian, Etienne Mbappé and Roger Biwandu, and even Sakiyo in the late 80s – all these projects illustrate the richness and diversity of Mario’s music.

The global fusion of Ultramarine
